Laughable…and Infuriating

I have tried to filter the news I receive lately due to poor one-side ignorance of most of the authors I have been listening to and reading. I can usually tolerate and even appreciate an educated opposition to my opinion, but the fact is, I find myself picking apart one-sided, touchy- feely, emotion provoking comments that are given as facts in news reports.

I know that I should not care. It is not my place to correct them. I should not listen to them but I can not help but see bad stories or narrow sided commentary and I wish that I did not have to put up with these people.

Some examples are:

NEW YORK (Reuters) – “Muslims in lower Manhattan who have prayed in a crowded basement or in the streets say they are not looking for confrontation with opponents of a new mosque. They simply need the space.”

OKLAHOMA CITY (News On 6) — Last year the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority raised tolls on all the state’s turnpikes by more than 15 percent. The authority claimed a budget shortfall forced them to do it. But the Turnpike Authority may have passed the bill on to their customers when they had plenty of money to make up the shortfall themselves.

Prosecutors: Snooki’s behavior criminally annoying( Associated Press)–“Prosecutors said at a hearing Wednesday that they will add the charge of annoying people on a beach to the two others the MTV reality show cast member faces after her arrest last month on the beach in Seaside Heights, where the show is based.”

For an explanation only, I will pick these three articles apart to prove my point.

Article 1,    The very first paragraph states that the Muslims are only building the Mosque because “They simply need the space”. In any basic article the writer makes an agreement with the reader in the first paragraph. That agreement is: This is what I am going to talk about. Really?!!  The Muslims just need the space. Why not find a place that would not be so controversial? Why would the writer not answer this question? The Muslims are out-numbered in this nation. Why not take the majorities side?  The reason is: They want to flare up the majority and make it look cool to be the minority so that they can create controversy and sell more news papers or advertising or what ever channel they use to spread their own brand of poison.

Article 2, The story in Oklahoma City about the Turnpikes raising their tolls and passing there short falls in projected earnings to their customers.Why tell this and not tell the fact that the turnpikes in Oklahoma are not owned by Oklahoma but the rate charges can be altered by the state?  The answer is because it is not as inflammatory as saying that short falls “forced them to do it”.

Finally article3, Snooki gets a charge of being criminally annoying. If that was true the police would not even have time to do their job because they would be arresting people around the clock in New Jersey. Not to mention, that charge would be found unconstitutional. But the truth would not sell as well, so, the writer had to make something up.

It is laughable to read article s like these because it shows the poor writing ability and the lack of knowledge of these authors and it is a dark indicator of the lost skill of persuasion in today’s news. It is infuriating to have to read such crap! Surely there is some out-of-work  writers that could give the news companies better, classier, authors in this country. It sure would be nice to read the news and see it just stick with the facts as they are seen not as they are contorted to sell. So for now I think I will enjoy my break from news and let life roll by anger free and happily, boycotting the news today. Enjoy your time too!
